Caring for leather, season by season
Sahara Smith

A soft cloth, a little balm and somewhere dry to rest. The simple care that keeps a bag for decades.
Start with what you carry
Empty your bag on the table. Keep what you used this week and leave the rest at home. A good bag is chosen for a day, not for every possible day.
Choose the shape
A tote for work and errands, a crossbody for travel and the city, a small top handle for evenings. One of each covers almost everything.
- Look for full-grain leather and stitched edges.
- Check that the strap sits where you like it.
- Pick a lining in a pale colour, so you can find things.

Let it age
Small marks and a deeper colour are the leather settling in. Feed it twice a year and it keeps its shape for decades.
The best bag is the one you stop thinking about.
